The Pilgrim Baptist Church has a long and significant
126-year-old history that transcends its role as a house
of worship. Designed by the Chicago firm Adler and Sullivan, a fire in 2006 destroyed most the building except the perimeter limestone walls, which are currently supported by steel shoring structure to provide stability.
The former church has remained in its current state because of various financial, legal and preservation issues.Despite the impasse, the church provides an opportunity for the studio to explore architectural and preservation ideas in the process of re-imagining the future of this urban ruin.
